Favourite Things: Cosmetics

My makeup collection is very small, and deliberately so.

I don’t have drawers filled with different foundations, dozens of lipsticks or the latest beauty launches. What I have is a handful of products that work for me, one foundation, an eyebrow pencil, mascara, a MAC eyeshadow palette, two lipsticks and a lipliner.

And, for me, that is enough.

Over time, I have learned that having more choice doesn’t necessarily make getting ready easier. In fact, it can often do the opposite. Once we know the colours, formulas and products that suit us, there is something wonderfully simple about returning to them.

My approach to cosmetics is much the same as my approach to my wardrobe. I would rather have a small, considered collection that I genuinely use than an abundance of products sitting untouched.

The cosmetics I share here aren’t chosen because they are new or trending. They are the products that have earned a place in my makeup bag because they work, I enjoy using them and I would happily buy them again.

Makeup, to me, isn’t about becoming someone different. It is simply another way of presenting ourselves; enhancing rather than disguising, and helping us feel polished in a way that still feels entirely our own.

Perhaps the best beauty collection isn’t the biggest one.

It’s the one you actually use.

I’m happy to just sit in a cafe and watch people. It’s my favourite thing to do, for sure.
