Favourite Things: Shoes
One thing I have learned as I’ve gotten older is that beautiful shoes mean very little if I cannot comfortably wear them.
These days, comfort is non-negotiable; but, that doesn’t mean I am willing to compromise on style.
I am perfectly happy to buy a $50 second-hand blouse, but shoes are one area where I will not scrimp. I would rather invest in fewer pairs that are beautifully made, comfortable to walk in and versatile enough to earn their place in my wardrobe.
Perhaps that is because shoes have to work harder than almost anything else we wear. They carry us through long days, city streets, travel, work, dinners and everything in between. A beautiful shoe that spends its life sitting in a wardrobe because it hurts is, ultimately, not a very good purchase.
Over time, I have become much more discerning about what I buy. I look for quality and construction, but also support, fit and wearability. I want shoes that allow me to get on with my life without thinking about my feet.
The shoes and brands I share here are the ones I genuinely own, wear and return to – some so reliably that I have bought the same style, or variations of it, more than once.
For me, investing in good shoes isn’t about extravagance. It’s about understanding where quality matters and being willing to spend accordingly.
Because personal style should never require us to be uncomfortable.
The best shoes are the ones that look beautiful, and let you live your life in them.
